Chinese Class

Mandarin class 1 (beginner) is a junior course for children with Chinese backgrounds aged from 5 to 7 years old. Requirements for this class: basic abilities in listening, speaking Mandarin.

We will be using “Hanyu” as our main teaching material in class, written by the Beijing Chinese Academy for Overseas Students as it contains useful content in day to day life. It contains wonderful illustrations, content which varies in difficulty, as well as common sentence structures, fables, radical tables and writing worksheets, making it easier for children to revise what they have learned in class.

In the classroom our teachers will arrange interesting activities for our students further developing their interest in learning Mandarin. At the same time your child will experience phonetic learning in order to correct pronunciation and assist them in reading through books 1, 2 and 3. Our aim is for these students to achieve an understanding of 200 to 300 Chinese characters, being able to correctly read with the aid of PinYin and write them within 2 years.

By the end of this phase of study, we recommend and encourage students to participate in the corresponding YCT test (YOUTH CHINESE TEST), in order to assess the student’s academic performance and the effectiveness of the teaching, to develop the next stage of study goals.

Mandarin class 2 (Elementary) is a junior course for children with Chinese backgrounds aged from 7 to 8 years old. Requirements for this class: average abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Mandarin.

We will be using “Hanyu” as our main teaching material in class, written by the Beijing Chinese Academy for Overseas Students as it contains useful content in day to day life. It contains wonderful illustrations, content which varies in difficulty, as well as common sentence structures, fables, radical tables and writing worksheets, making it easier for children to revise what they have learned in class.

In the classroom our teachers will arrange interesting activities for our students further developing their interest in learning Mandarin. Students will be reading more articles with less need for PinYin and expanding their vocabulary as they work through books 4, 5 and 6. Our aim is for these students to achieve an understanding of 300 to 500 Chinese characters, being able to correctly write simple dialogue exchange fragments within 2 years.

Before the end of this phase of study, we recommend and encourage students to participate in the corresponding YCT test (YOUTH CHINESE TEST), in order to assess the student’s academic performance and effectiveness of teaching, to develop the next stage of effective goals.

Mandarin class 3 (Intermediate) is a course for children with Chinese backgrounds aged from 9 to 10 years old. Requirements for this class: good abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Mandarin.

We will be using “Hanyu” as our main teaching material in class, written by the Beijing Chinese Academy for Overseas Students as it contains useful content in day to day life. It contains wonderful illustrations, content which varies in difficulty, as well as common sentence structures, fables, radical tables and writing worksheets, making it easier for children to revise what they have learned in class.

In the classroom our teachers will arrange interesting activities for our students further developing their interest in learning Mandarin. Students continue to improve their listening and speaking skills as well as independent reading without the need for PinYin and expanding their vocabulary as they work through books 7, 8 and 9. Our aim is for these students to achieve an understanding of 600 to 800 Chinese characters, being able to correctly use a bilingual dictionary as well as writing a short narrative by themselves within 2 years.

Before the end of this phase of study, we recommend and encourage students to participate in the corresponding YCT test (YOUTH CHINESE TEST), in order to assess the student’s academic performance and effectiveness of teaching, to develop the next stage of effective goals.

Mandarin class 4 (Upper Intermediate) is a course for children with Chinese backgrounds aged from 11 to 12 years old. Requirements for this class: great abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Mandarin.

We will be using “Hanyu” as our main teaching material in class, written by the Beijing Chinese Academy for Overseas Students as it contains useful content in day to day life. It contains wonderful illustrations, content which varies in difficulty, as well as common sentence structures, fables, radical tables and writing worksheets, making it easier for children to revise what they have learned in class.

In the classroom our teachers will arrange interesting activities for our students further developing their interest in learning Mandarin. Students continue to improve their listening and speaking skills by communicating freely with Mandarin as well as independent reading longer articles without the need for PinYin and expanding their vocabulary as they work through books 10, 11 and 12. Our aim is for these students to achieve an understanding of 900 to 1000 Chinese characters, being able to correctly use a bilingual dictionary as well as writing a long narrative by themselves within 2 years.

Before the end of this phase of study, we recommend and encourage students to participate in the corresponding YCT test (YOUTH CHINESE TEST), in order to assess the student’s academic performance and effectiveness of teaching, to develop the next stage of effective goals.

SQA Chinese Exam Preparation Class Introduction

Specifically, for S2/S3 students, the textbook uses local Scottish textbooks “”Jìn bù One”, “Jìn bù Two”, and “GCSE”. The class is taught by Teacher Ye Liu /Jin Zhao.  A test is set for every unit in this class, cultivating examination skills and Chinese expression abilities; promoting methods to destress before exams. The goal is to encourage students to complete the N5 exam in advance in S3, prepare for S4 to complete Higher in advance, and S5 to complete the Advanced Higher exam in advance.

 SQA Chinese Exam Class Introduction

SQA Chinese exam include three levels of National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. The class is taught by Jin Zhao, a professional teacher with rich teaching experience. Providing teaching services that include exam counselling, exam registration, and exam arrangement.  In the past three years, students in the ECEC Chinese School have performed extremely well in Chinese exams aiding them in their applications to prestigious Universities. They have successfully entered London Politics and Economics, Imperial College London, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of St Andrews, etc. The students proudly call this class “Achievers League”, sprinting into prestigious schools in an atmosphere of hard work. The school also specially added the following services for examination classes:

  1. Invite graduates to share their application experience and experience in prestigious schools; professionals provide application suggestions
  2. Invite guest speakers to give guidance for students to consider future career plans while applying for their majors
  3. Hire Maths, English and other professional teachers to run tutorial classes to help students to achieve successful applications

Happy Chinese Class

Based on our past experience in running Chinese school, we conclude that non-Mandarin speaking children should be taught Chinese in a way that is different from that to native Mandarin speaking children. Therefore we set up the Happy Chinese class for children who are not native speakers of Mandarin. Many Chinese schools in England have seen great success in offering such course to non-Mandarin speaking children. This course is designed to stimulate children’s interest in learning Chinese and to improve the child’s ability to use them. We will use the teaching material “Chinese Paradise” designed for children whose mother tongue is not Mandarin, using lively teaching methods, integrating listening, speaking, reading, multimedia, games, and singing. At the same time, we will also introduce Chinese culture, such as kung fu, festivals, zodiac, and folk tales, so that they are in a relaxed and happy atmosphere as well as being familiar with Chinese culture. Through years of study, they will achieve the Chinese Proficiency Test (YCT) level 4, the Chinese a level sufficient to meet the daily life and work needs in China.
